We are thrilled to announce the successful conclusion of the five-year LIFE
Artina project, which has been dedicated to the conservation of seabirds in the
Adriatic Sea. Throughout the project duration, significant milestones have been
achieved, including the identification of five new marine areas crucial for
seabirds and the proposal of conservation measures to safeguard these habitats.
Key project findings and outcomes have been extensively shared with
stakeholders through a series of events and materials. The project’s final
conference held in May was a pivotal moment for disseminating project results
and engaging with stakeholders. Additionally, two important documents,
“Recommendations from the testing of adapted tools for reducing seabird
bycatch within the LIFE Artina project” and “Project position on
measures to reduce the impact of fishing activities on sensitive seabird
species in Croatia,” were developed and distributed.
Furthermore, the project conducted a socio-economic analysis to assess its
impact and gathered insights into the attitudes and opinions of target groups.
A notable aspect of the project was its focus on marine litter, composting, and
children’s education, addressing crucial environmental issues and fostering
awareness among younger generations.
As we reflect on this remarkable journey, we express our gratitude to all
those who contributed to the success of the LIFE Artina project, especially the
local community of Lastovo Island. The experiences gained and relationships
formed throughout this project will be cherished and remembered, paving the way
for future endeavors in seabird conservation.
