After three consecutive years of celebrating the Night of the Albatross in Lastovo, this year we decided to hold the Night of the Albatross in the town of Komiža on the island of Vis. This event is designed to contribute to the conservation of three marine bird species – Yelkouan Shearwater (Puffinus yelkouan), Scopoli’s Sherwater (Calonectris diomedea) and the Audouin’s Gull (Larus audouinii).
The Night of the Albatross – Komiža edition was held this Saturday, October 1, 2022, in the Fishing Museum (Komuna, Kaštel).
We have prepared two exhibitions – an exhibition about seabirds called The Future for Seabirds and an exhibition of marine litter collected from a beach on the island of Vis, and with interactive games such as puzzles, memory, fishing in a sea of plastic and through models, the youngest could learn about the threats our birds face every day such as invasive species, bycatch and marine litter. In addition to the games, we also organized a short workshop on bycatches on fishing gear.
Many children and their parents joined the public event, and it is certainly a good indication for us that they left the event satisfied because they played each game with great enthusiasm and interest.
